Does your ecommerce website have a mobile marketing strategy? According to a study of 15,00 mobile phone users in 14 different countries by InMobi, personal computer and laptop shopping is on a sharp decline, while mobile commerce popularity continues to surge.

Among consumers surveyed, only 16% said that they preferred shopping on their home computer or laptop over shopping at physical store locations or shopping on their mobile phones.  Many said that shopping on their smartphone is a regular, and in some cases, daily activity.

In the United States, 74 million people shop online using their mobile devices on a regular basis. Many are purchasing games and content for their mobile phones, and approximately 19% are purchasing electronic goods. About 15%, says the survey, are purchasing clothing items.

As more businesses make the move to mcommerce, the trend of purchasing more by phone and less by PC is expected to continue.  While many online merchants still view mobile or mcommerce as an extension of traditional ecommerce, this is quickly changing as well.

Mcommerce consumers are constantly linked to their phones, taking them everywhere, and using them to access the Internet from many different places.  Factor in incentives for mobile phone purchases, such as QR codes and exclusive, mobile-only coupons and deals, and it is easy to see why the mcommerce trend is evolving so rapidly.

This does not mean that it is time to abandon PC ecommerce marketing strategies by any means. Shopping online via computer is still an activity that many people all over the world take part in on a regular basis.  What it does mean is that it is time for serious online merchants to focus on mobile ecommerce marketing strategies, techniques, and website design and development.
