Store Spotlight: Piedmont Craftsmen

This week, our Store Spotlight is on Piedmont Craftsmen, a non-profit education and arts organization that has been committed to promoting fine, traditional and contemporary craft art through educational and community programs and activities, since 1963, and more recently, since 1999, via their ecommerce store.

Representing nearly 400 of the most talented artisans in the Southeast, Piedmont Craftsmen’s members are invited to join based on their skills and professionalism, and once they become members, are invited to sell their work in the Piedmont Craftsmen Crafts Shop.

As a non-profit, Piedmont Craftsmen also provides a wide variety of educational classes and workshops for the benefit of the greater Winston-Salem, North Carolina area. The annual Crafts Fair, held since 1963, provides a unique opportunity for artisans to exhibit, and the public to view, unique works of art.

When the organization decided that it was time to add an ecommerce element to their site, they turned to Marketing and eBusiness Consulting firm TayloeGray, and web design firm Cgraydesign for design and development. They, in turn, recommended the Miva Merchant ecommerce platform.

The organization’s store, a combination of WordPress and Miva Merchant, has many unique features, such as a custom artist section that displays artist information, and includes links to products within the store that are associated with that artist.

Currently, there are over 500 items in the store, all unique and in a wide variety of mediums, including mixed media, fiber, jewelry, metal, photography, printmaking, clay, glass, wood, and more.
