Square employs a multi-faceted approach to payment fraud prevention. This includes end-to-end encryption, tokenization, and two-factor authentication to secure sensitive information and user access. The use of machine learning, artificial intelligence, and real-time monitoring helps identify and flag unusual transaction patterns. Address Verification System (AVS) and velocity checks add additional layers of security by verifying billing addresses and monitoring transaction frequency. Square also utilizes device fingerprinting and provides merchants with fraud alerts, empowering them to respond promptly to suspicious activities.
