Made with Miva Merchant: Littman Bros.

Written by Miva | Oct 18, 2012

Littman Bros. Lighting was one of the first online fan and lighting retailers, well before the e-commerce shopping boom in the mid 90’s. They have since evolved into the full service and comprehensive website that you enjoy today.  They now light a 10,000+ square-foot custom lighting gallery showroom in Schaumburg, Illinois, as well as a completely comprehensive virtual showroom online to cater to customers worldwide. Their products include the leading designer brands, Tech Lighting and Kichler Lighting , cutting edge collections in the world of fashionable home lighting. Starting in Chicago, IL with just one small retail store, they have since expanded to be the leader in the market, bringing the selection and service of their local lighting gallery to international customers.

We spoke with Benson Littman and Dan Littman, the Owners of Littman Bros., to gain some insight from their continually expanding store.

What is the most valuable advice you can give to other business owners?

  • “Know your limitations, but continually expand the business. We saw a need for an energy efficient way of saving money by selling ceiling fans. This was in the late 70’s when nobody was selling them in the Midwest 70’s. Littman Bros. launched in 1979 as a retail ceiling fan chain. We then expanded into full line light fixtures, commercial and e-commerce internet sales over the last 30 years.”

What were you looking for in an eCommerce solution?

  • “We needed the ability to optimize web pages for search engines. We switched about four years ago because with Miva Merchant we had the ability to customize product pages and category pages to fit the needs of each individual product.”
  • “The greatest advantage of Miva Merchant is the integration with SearchSpring to utilize faceted filters."
