Joan and Bill Keller (two of our local San Diego hippies) thought, “Outfitting for a big trip is way too complicated.  Wouldn’t it be great to find everything in one place–Luggage, backpacks, day bags, money belts, plug adaptors, guidebooks, maps, and travel clothing?”  So, they opened Le Travel Store in 1976, focusing on the needs of international, independent travelers like themselves.  “We traveled often and sometimes got into difficult situations,” said Joan and Bill. “We took some risks on the theory that the rewards would be worth it.”

Since 1976—The Original Travel Store

In 1976, Le Travel Store was the first in the country to call their business a “Travel Store,” where everything you needed from clothes to travel services were under one roof.  That is why they wanted a system that allowed them to have a great design on the front end and a fully functional back end to encompass their thousands of products sold in-store and online.

Le Travel Store started using e-commerce in 1997. Their first generation using Miva Merchant launched in 2006, and their current Miva built site launched in 2011.  “Miva Merchant was recommended by our prior web design and hosting service, Digitaria” stated Bill Keller.  “E-commerce is dynamic and constantly changing.  As a small company we are constantly in danger of getting left behind.  The greatest advantage of using Miva Merchant is that it helps us keep up with the changes.”  The Gaslamp Quarter location in downtown San Diego makes this store extra handy.
