We have previously offered insight into why your ecommerce business should be concerned about online security and what you can do to help prevent a data breach. Now, we have a visual guide to paint a clearer picture. This infographic highlights three ways merchants can protect their online store from internet fraud.

Strong Passwords

Security experts recommend that all business-related accounts should be secured by strong passwords to keep valuable private data safe. As a best practice, passwords should have at least eight characters, contain a mixture of upper and lower-case letters, numbers and symbols. Remember to use different passwords for your accounts because if one password is compromised, there is a much greater risk that other accounts will be hacked as well.

User Roles

User roles can be utilized by ecommerce businesses to keep private customer data out of the wrong hands. Assign different access levels based upon the employee’s responsibilities within a company. Miva has three types of user roles available for ecommerce storeowners including Administrator, Manager, and Ordinary. By default, accounts are set to the lowest level of access, which is the Ordinary user role. Remember, it’s always better to grant a user more access, than to have to take it away.

Two-Factor Authentication

Implementing two-factor authentication is the third approach an online retail business can take to add a second layer of security to private information. Consumers often use two-factor authentication unknowingly. Examples of common two-factor authentication include fingerprint readers, zip code credit card authentication, using a pin for ATM withdrawals, and email or text message verification codes.
