Google Analytics In Real Life - Landing Page Optimization

Written by Miva | Dec 20, 2012

The other day Google released a humerous video onto youtube via their Google Analytics channel entitled “Google Analytics In Real Life – Landing Page Optimization.”

The description of the video reads:

“Are you distracting your customers, and deterring them from buying what they really want on your site? This humorous video highlights how some missteps in the online shopping experience would look if they actually played out in real life.”

I won’t go into all the details covered in the video (that’s what watching the video is for) but I will say it makes a great case for why you should have Google Analytics set up on your website. The web is a complicated place and the peculiar situations depicted in the video are completely conceivable whether or not the web designers intended such an end user experience.

Do you want your customers to have this experience on your site? No, nobody does. Does this happen to customers the world over every single day? Yes, it does. Google Analytics can help you catch issues and quirks about your website experiences you never knew were there. Bottom line is you can’t fix a problem, if you don’t know you have one.

About Google Analytics

Google Analytics is a service offered by Google that generates detailed statistics about the visits to a website. The product is aimed at marketers as opposed to webmasters and technologists from which the industry of web analytics originally grew. It is the most widely used website statistics service.

The basic service is free of charge and a premium version is available for a fee.

GA can track visitors from all referrers, including search engines, display advertising, pay-per-click networks, e-mail marketing and digital collateral such as links within PDF documents.
