Apple.com just finished a major website redesign, and in doing so made a monumentally significant UI change that marks another step forward in the merging of content and commerce on the web.
store.apple.com has been laid to rest, replaced by a single, integrated website with buy buttons on each specific product page.
“We redesigned Apple.com knowing that our customers want to explore, research and shop in one place” said an Apple spokesperson in a statement. Early speculation on Apple’s decision to make the shift points to the growing numbers of mobile buyers wanting a seamless buying experience on increasingly smaller devices. Mobile commerce is growing at approximately 48% annually, with mobile sales hitting $8 billion in the second quarter of 2014. More and more, mobile consumers are browsing content looking for ‘that thing they want’ – and a buy button to complete the transaction.
